Meet the Blind 5k Run/Walk Fundraiser
We are the Red Rocks Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind of Utah, based in St. George. The NFB of Utah is a state affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind, a non-profit organization of blind individuals, their friends, and families, working for the independence and benefit of blind people. The NFB of Utah improves blind people’s lives through advocacy, education, research, technology and programs encouraging independence and self-confidence.

The National Federation of the Blind is the only organization that believes in the full capacity of blind people, and has the power, influence, diversity, and determination to help transform our dreams into reality. We believe in blind people because we are blind people. Our democratically elected leaders and our diverse nationwide membership are made up of blind people, our families, and our friends. We are bound together by our belief that the blind are capable of achieving our dreams and living the lives we want, and by the love and respect we have for one another and for all blind Americans. We support one another, act with courage and determination when we encounter barriers or experience setbacks, and engage in collective action to improve our lives.

Our Meet the Blind 5K Run/Walk Fund raiser, sponsored by Findlay Volkswagen, will help us achieve our mission, to live the lives we want!

Please come support us on October 14, 2017. The Run/Walk will be at the Crosby Family Confluence Park located at 2099 S. Convention Center Dr. in St. George. Registration is from 7 to 8AM, then the Run/Walk will start at 8AM.

Dawn, Day, & Night of the Running Dead
Three Awesome Races-Three Amazing Medals
Run one, two, or complete the challenge by running all three. Once again held at the popular Andy Ballard Equestrian Center, complete the challenge by running all three races: Dawn (9am), Day (1pm), and Night (8 pm) of the Running Dead Race. This is a zombie-themed race where participants register as either undead or human. As undead, you may dress as such and will start the race 2 minutes after the humans begin their run. The whole idea is to see an army of undead chasing the living. This is just a fun race and no contact along the course other than normal physical contact expected at a race will be permitted. Costumes are optional but highly encouraged. This race is family friendly.

Run4Refuge
With the constant buzz of media and newscasts, we are ever-aware of the refugee crisis that is ongoing and devastating. But how much do we really know, and how can we really help?

In the fall of 2015, a group of BYU students traveled to Amman, Jordan to study the Arab culture and Arabic language. We interacted with and befriended people who had relocated from Iraq and Syria. While not all of them were refugees, these people had family and friends who still lived in war-ridden countries. We saw the impact that the crisis had on those not directly amidst the conflict, informally studying the social, economic and emotional impact of displacement. As our awareness of the needs of refugees increased, so did our desire to help them.
?
Now that we are home, in the comfort and safety of a politically secure nation, we want to help those who are being emotionally and physically crippled by the effects of war. We want to support those who cannot support themselves.
?
On Oct. 21, 2017, we will be holding a 5K-10K race, and the entirety of proceeds will be given to organizations supporting refugees. We'll provide more information once we have established our partners.
?
On the day of the race, we will also be holding a cultural event, which will celebrate the art, music and food of different refugee communities in Utah. All are welcome to attend and participate.
As we organize this community event, we value the opinions and desires of the community, so please contact us with any suggestions, questions or donation inquiries. We promise to keep you updated on the event.
