In February 2008, Christina McEvoy, a 30-year-old young mom, showed her doctor a suspicious mole on her thigh. Melanoma. Removal of the mole gave the athletic swimmer, skier and cyclist a clean slate—she hoped. Then, in 2009, she detected a lump in her groin. Melanoma had hit her lymph nodes; surgeons found only one malignant node, but treatments followed. In June 2010, routine scan results devastated family and friends: spots in her lungs. The “skin cancer” had metastasized and was classified as STAGE 4. The FIGHT was on.

Utah's Dating Violence Task Force is happy to announce their 3rd Annual Prevent Dating Violence 5k. It is taking place Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Jordan River Parkway Walden Pavilion. Runners can register at www.health.utah.gov.

Stick around after the race for a chance to wins prizes (massages, pedicures, Grizzles tickets etc.) at the awards Ceremony will take place at 11:00 am.

From the park, runners will make their way up Trappers Loop to Snowbasin and down Old Snowbasin Road. Once in Ogden Valley, the course will go west towards Pineview Dam for an 18 mile loop around the reservoir. Runners will then run back up Old Snowbasin Road and down Trappers Loop into Mt. Green to finish back at the park.

Not only will you have an amazing time running this one but you will also be supporting an amazing cause, as 50% of all entry fees will be donated to the Dixie Regional Medical Center’s Breast Cancer Division! All breast cancer survivors will be recognized with a special pink shirt if they designate this on their entry form!

Bridge of Love, a Utah-based non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing comfort and hope to Romania’s abandoned children. Bridge of Love has been instrumental in removing children from orphanages, one child at a time, and placing them with foster families in Romania. Currently, there are nearly 40 children in foster care who receive support from Bridge of Love.

The purpose of the Donate Life Utah 9k is to raise awareness for the important need of organ donation. Did you know that one organ donor can save as many as 9 lives? We are having a 5K run to help raise money for a wonderful family in American Fork that is currently dealing with a very difficult fight against cancer.

At 6 weeks old, Jonas Coleman was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). He is now almost three. While his mind is intact, he cannot move his limbs, swallow, or breathe on his own. His parents, Whit and Lindsey Coleman, do not know how long they have with Jonas, so they take one day at a time and appreciate every moment they have with him.
Whit and Lindsey welcomed their second child, Maggie, into their Family on August 27, 2010. She too has SMA. All the medical equipment, time, and money to care for these two precious children has doubled.

We are partnering with Good in the Hood, a Utah 503 (c) non-profit, to put on this 5K run. All proceeds benefit the Coleman family.
