Description of Race Events
We hope that part of you Independence Day celebration includes our Freedom Run 10K, 5K or the Mayorâs one mile Fun Run. The annual run has become an integral part of Americaâs Freedom Festival as thousands of participants at all levels and abilities join this invigorating event. We did some inquiry about the history of the Freedom Run and have come to the conclusion that the Freedom Run has been held in Provo since about WWII. If you have any information about the early history of the Freedom Run, we would love to hear from you.
These past several years have been really fun! The race has improved each year and the number of runners has increased as well. We believe that there is a possibility that we will have 5,000 runners this year. Now wouldnât that be an awesome sight! Tell your friends! letâs break 5,000.
We encourage you to get decked out in patriotic garb for the run. We have seen a lot of great costumes and would love to see more. Did you see âUncle Samâ on stilts running the race last year? Give us some Red, White and Blue!
Additional Race Information
The 10K starts at 7:00 AM. The start is conveniently located at the finish line.
The 5k will start at 7:00 AM. As the start is a few minutes walk away from Kiwanis Park, you need to plan on walking southwest of Kiwanis at least 10-15 minutes before 7:00AM. The 5k start line will close 8 minutes after the gun. If you start later than that, you wonât get a chip start time.
The 1 Mile event is scheduled to start at 7:00 AM. We may start it a couple of minutes late if the 10K crowd is spilling over onto the 1M course.
We made arrangements with two registration sites this year. Active.com is a great site, but it is a bit expensive with a +$3.25 processing fee per runner. Raceit.com is a bit cheaper with a $15 race processing fee of 1.90 and a $25 race processing fee of $2.50 for credit card payments. If you want to avoid all registration fees, use raceit.com and choose âpay by checkâ. Of course you will have to send in a check to complete your registration, but you wonât have any additional fees.
Late registration will take place at Hogi Yogi on the corner of Bulldog and University Avenue in Provo on July 3rd from noon till 7:00 pm. You may also register on July 5th at the Kiwanis Park pavilion, but remember that registration will end at 6:00 am. Shirts and other goodies are not promised with late registration. |
